SESSION 10: Rheology and Modeling of Construction Materials, Mortars and Concretes (RMCMMC)


Lime, gypsum and rocks as construction materials are already used in several thousand years and the first constructions from concretes were built by Romans. Since then the construction materials engineering has made significant progress not only in colloid science and powder technology but in research of thermal and structural transformations during the solidification and consolidations of these materials. In late of 1980s by Toyota was made the initial research works on clay/polymer nano-composites. Today the rheological investigations of construction materials and concretes are combined with the basic characteristics like surface adsorption, crystallographic defects, anionic and cationic exchange capacities, physical and chemical properties at nanometre scale. In our days the rheological properties and mineralogical-biological interactions also have been object of a great scientific interest. For example the concretes are used for radiation protection of radioactive wastes or as natural reservoirs of heavy metal pollutants.

Session RMCMMC provides a platform among leading scientists and researchers both of rheology and materials science including engineers, physicists, chemists, mechanics, mathematicians, students and PhD students for simulation and discussion about recent achievements in rheology and in research and development of material structures and physical, chemical and mechanical properties of construction materials and concretes.
