SESSION 7: Multiscale Mechanics of Materials (MMM)


The session Multiscale Mechanics of Materials aims at elucidating the relation between, on the one hand, the mechanical properties and behaviors of materials under mechanical stresses and temperature and, on the other hand, the underlying phenomena on smaller length and time scales. This session provides a platform for scientists from diverse fields, e.g. engineering disciplines, physics, chemists, medics, biologists, orthopedists and mathematics, to exchange ideas and to share their latest achievements in this exciting field. We welcome modeling, simulation, experimental, and combined approaches that tackle the structure-property relation.

Topics

 

Papers may be submitted on a wide range of topics, e.g.

  • materials: e.g. polymers, metals, foams, wood;
  • state: fluid state or solid state (crystalline or amorphous);
  • properties: e.g. elasticity, viscoelasticity, plasticity, fracture.

Especial welcome abstracts, which are addressed to the relation between at least two different scales of materials. For example:

  • microscopic (atomistic, molecular);
  • mesoscopic (e.g. dislocations, grain size, overall polymer chain distortion, …);
  • macroscopic (continuum).
We welcome  also the modeling, simulation, experimental, and combined approaches that tackle the structure-property relation.
